Medically Supervised Weight Loss

What is medical weight loss?

So, what is medical weight loss? Before discussing what it is, it probably makes sense to start with what it is not. Medical weight loss is not surgery or diet pills. It is weight management based on medical scientific principles that target the root causes of obesity and weight gain to achieve and sustain a healthy weight in the long-term under the care of a medical provider.

How medical weight loss differs from other programs

The tools that we at Balboa Medical Center & Spa use to help you manage your weight are very different from what you find with commercial programs. First, we use your metabolism and body composition (mainly fat percentage) as true indicators of weight loss progress. Second, we can prescribe safe, low-calorie diets that are specifically designed to help you lose weight while breaking the cycle of food addiction. And should you choose, we can also prescribe an appetite suppressant for you.  Finally, we have the ability to view your weight loss and maintenance within the context of your total health profile. If you have a condition that requires medication that may be interfering with your weight loss efforts, Doctor Amir H. Raeesy as a primary care physician can prescribe a safe, effective alternative to lift those barriers.

Who Can Medical Weight Loss Benefit?

Medical weight loss is designed to help any individual with his or her specific weight loss goals, whether to lose 100 pounds or those last stubborn ten pounds. Everyone is different when it comes to weight loss, but medical weight loss can be used to treat everyone.

If you've made an appointment for your initial consultation, here’s what you can expect on your first visit. It’s just three easy steps to your personalized weight loss plan:

1. Your Medical History

Your visit starts with a Medical Evaluation and review of your medical history, including any prescription or over-the-counter medication you may be taking. It’s very important that we understand your overall health when designing your personalized plan.

2. Body Composition Analysis (BCA)

Our dedicated staff will ask you to step on a special scale that will give you a total breakdown of the percentages of fat, muscle, and water in your body. Your resting metabolism and blood pressure will also be taken. This gives us a baseline of where you'll start your weight loss plan.

3. Consultation with the Medical Provider

After reviewing your medical history and BCA results, we will sit down to get to know you. This is the time to open up about your weight loss goals and challenges, and what you truly want to get out of a weight loss plan. In order for us to design your personalized plan, we need to get to know the whole you.

CMWLAt the end of your visit, you'll have a plan, personalized just for you! If you decide to move ahead with your personalized weight loss plan, you'll not only be following a medically proven weight loss approach, but you'll be building a relationship with Balboa Medical Center & Spa's specialized weight loss staff, who will be your greatest support throughout the process.
